I was delighted to see Dr. James Peake become the nation’s 6th Secretary of Veterans Affairs when he was sworn in by President Bush on 20 Dec. Fourty-one years ago right now I was the company commander of Co C, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry, a part of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY. I was just back from my first RVN tour, had been married 6 weeks, and had been a captain just over 3 weeks. One of my 2LT platoon leaders was Jim Peake. He was an excellent platoon leader. He volunteered for service in RVN and left the company in the spring. There he served with distinciton and valor; his decorations include the Silver Star. Jim returned to go to medical school and continued in the Army in the Medical Corps. He rose to be Surgeon General of the Army, retiring as a Lt. General in 2004. Our VA system needs a strong leader who really cares for the troops; I believe that Jim Peake is just the man. Now we need a Congress and a president who will give him the resources he needs to do the job. Jim will be our guest on Frontlines of Freedom on 17 Feb 08.

The bravery and blood of our brave warriors has purchased for the world and for the nation two Mideastern nations, Iraq and Afghanistan, which are not dominated by Islamofacists. Both countries are on the road to some form of government controlled by their own people. This road is disappointingly slow—as was that of the US in the late 1700s while we were at war; read about the Articles of Confederation to learn how our nation tried to start with an ineffective form of government. Timetables for withdrawal only tell the enemy that he has won—he need only wait us out. Our nation must stay the course in the Mid-east and see victory for the local people, for out nation, and for the world.br /br /Clinton Fbr /Edwards Fbr /Gravel Fbr /Kuchnich Fbr /Obama Fbr /br /Giulaini Abr /Huckabee Abr /Hunter Abr /McCain Abr /Paul Fbr /Romney Abr /br /br /Thompson A

January 14th, 2008Graded Category #3: Willing to stop Iran’s threat. Iran is clearly the major threat in the region. It is openly working to become a nuclear power. Given its open, active support of terrorist organizations, they will certainly make nuclear devices available to terrorist organizations once they get them. When American leadership concludes that Iran is about to become an active, nuclear threat to our nation and the world, our president must have the insight and courage to stop them—cold. This means a military strike. Not to do so will cost our nation and our military unacceptable suffering and likely defeat.br /br /Clinton Bbr /Edwards Cbr /Gravel Fbr /Kucinich Fbr /Obama Cbr /br /Giuliani Abr /Huckabee Abr /Hunter Abr /McCain Abr /Paul Fbr /Romney Bbr /Thompson A

January 14th, 2008Graded Category #4: Will grow our military. Whether we stay in the Mid-east for a long term or not, we need a much bigger military. The current rotation of troops to the war-zone is so intense that the military is starting to loose the very vital middle-level officers and NCOs. If we have a need for border security or other internal military functions, (as we will for certain if we cut-and-run) we’ll need more military. The active military needs to be at least 3 times as big as it is right now. We need to return the reserve components to their “reserve” role.br /br /Clinton C,br /Edwards Cbr /Gravel Dbr /Kucinich Fbr /Obama 0 (no info available)br /br /Giulaini Bbr /Huckabee Bbr /Hunter Bbr /McCain Bbr /Paul Fbr /Romney Bbr /Thompson A

January 14th, 2008Graded category #1. Comments Encourage Our Troops: When our nation is at war, everyone should support the troops and their families. We, veterans, preserve the right of all Americans to protest peacefully on any topic; yet when troops are down-range public negative comments or protest against the combat action always: encourages the enemy; discourages our troops by saying that their efforts are unworthy; and, worst of all, demeans and hurts their families. Honoring and respecting our troops includes actively condemning people and groups (MoveOn.org) that demean our troops (including GEN Petreaus) and their efforts. If presidential aspirants believe that our involvement in the Mideast is wrong they are free to work to end our involvement—but their public comments must be supportive of our war.br /br /Clinton Fbr /Edwards Fbr /Gravel Fbr /Kucinich Fbr /Obama Fbr /br /Giulaina Abr /Huckabee Abr /Hunter Abr /McCain Abr /Paul Fbr /Romney Abr /Thompson A
