The sky lit up, but it was fireworks, not bombings, that colored the Baghdad skyline late Monday night as thousands of Iraqis partied in a park where singers performed patriotic songs. This is the day that Iraqis assume full responsibility for there own security; US forces are now only in reserve. At the same time, though, four American soldiers were killed in combat in the area. Stay tuned for results.
Iraq is somewhat on its own
June 30th, 2009Lionesses
June 29th, 2009Our troops in Iraq have found that including at least one woman with every group that may have to search or interrogate female Iraqi citizens is a very good idea. Taking things a step further, the Marines created some all-female teams (3-5 women) and called them Lionesses. There are no shortage of volunteers. Guess what? The female marines tended to get useful information out of the women they searched. Iraqi women were surprised, and often awed, when they encountered these female soldiers and marines. The awe often turned into cooperation. Most Iraqi women are much less enthusiastic about fighting the Americans than their men folk (who die in large numbers when they do so.) Being a widow is much harder in the Arab world than it is in the West. What can I say? The ladies are very effective.
Terrorists buy American
June 27th, 2009Terrorist groups as well as foreign governments have increasingly attempted, with some succes, to purchase sensitive dual-use and military technology from American companies–this in a US Government report.br /Taliban fighters in Afghanistan have managed to escape US attacks and carry out successful attacks, thanks to American state-of-the-art military technology.br /It seems that our Government Accountability Office (GAO) set up front companies and fictitious identities and was able to buy night-vision scopes and special infrared patches that our troops wear in Iraq and Afghanistan. These infrared patches are used to help soldiers distinguish the enemy from their fellow combatants.br /It’s good to know that “Buy American” slogans are working; but we’d better be sure that we don’t provide it to the bad guys. We need both American companies and our government to install checks that this doesn’t happen.
Tea Parties and the US Constitution
June 27th, 2009I teach American Government at the local Community College. I always teach the Constitution. It’s very, very clear that our nation and its government are not even close to being in line with our own Constitution. The driving force behind Tea Parties is to return America to being a Republic under a Constitution. I’ll be the MC at the West Michigan Tea Party at 1 pm on the 4th. Find one near you and let’s try to get America back on course. It’s going to be a long and tough fight, but we can’t win if we all don’t try.br /Check: a title=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=” s=”1amp;e=” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102614579477amp;s=1amp;e=001mx2lDSYjl8Cvvw6vWUPtpZHgcfNb2iij4R76mfdN09_N0bknuQNtHF4PcV_rKePv-Oui3DuFSYgwhNq1OvjLpvgv6vJLq1fMxRlWI3Rw0F33-kzUuzF8sciiH-14rvNR” target=”_blank”http://teapartyday.com/Locations.aspx/a and a href=”http://www.teapartyofwmi.org/”www.teapartyofwmi.org/a
Our Intelligence Community Under Attack
June 26th, 2009Early last May Philip Mudd, a veteran intelligence officer who has worked for the CIA and the FBI, was nominated to be undersecretary for intelligence and analysis at the Department of Homeland Security. He is well qualified. In June Mudd withdrew his nomination out of concern that attacks by Senate Democrats over his work on anti-terror programs would be a “distraction” to the Obama administration. This past November, CIA officer John Brennan pulled his nomination to be CIA deputy director for the same reason.br /Now, why would Democrats viciously attack the nominees of their president—especially very competent ones? It makes no sense—unless you realize how viciously many liberals hate those who keep our nation safe. Anyone who uses anything stronger than a “pretty please” is a villain who must be destroyed. Yes, our military falls into this category; they hate us, too. And these liberals now control our Congress.
