Iraq – Ready to Rock?

July 31st, 2010

The nation of Iraq has come a very long way in the few years it has existed free from Saddam. Yet talk of the nation being able to stand on its own are very premature—given that they have such nice neighbors as Iran and Pakistan.

This month the Iraqi National Defense College welcomed a team from the NATO Defense College to conduct the first ever Crisis Management Exercise with senior Iraqi leaders. This is the kind of thing that mature nations do routinely.

The exercise is centered around a fictitious scenario, which requires departmental and interagency cooperation to resolve a major crisis. Iraqi senior military and civil leaders must work together to overcome the emergency, while maintaining fundamental services, governmental functions, and security. Expect that it won’t run smoothly—they never do, even for experienced nations.

This is a great exercise, but think twice when someone suggests that the Iraqi government is mature and “ready to rock” on their own.

The Mexican Flag

July 30th, 2010

There was a large protest in Phoenix earlier this week. The protest was against the Arizona law making it more difficult to be an illegal alien in the state. Flying proudly at the protest was the Mexican flag. I have nothing against the Mexican flag–in Mexico. If the protesters were flying that flag, then it is to that country they should go–for all the benefits that they get from us. We need to seal our borders.

US vs Arizona

July 29th, 2010

So the US District Court in Arizona has emasculated the reasonable Arizona law that simply works in concert with existing federal laws. Folks, this is why we need to pay attention to the persons who are put in federal judgeships; too many of them, like this one, has no concept of living by the law in the real world. What part of illegal alien doesn’t that judge understand.

Arizona will appeal to the wildly liberal 9th Circuit who will, of course, rule against the state. Then it will go to the US Supreme Court–where, maybe, perhaps, there are still a few thinking justices. This is not a good day for legal residents of America.

Leak of classified documents

July 27th, 2010

One of the most common outcomes of a leak of classified documents is that some military people get killed. Whatever the reason for the leak, the bad guys do know how to exploit the info–and American troops die.

I’ve checked with some of my contacts. This is the first time any of us can remember any Democrats being upset about a leak of classified documents. By the way–this is a true statement, not a cheap shot.
