I spent this afternoon on the State Capital’s steps attending the 11th annual Michigan Remembers Run. We gathered to remember the Prisoners of War (POWs) and Missing in Action (MIAs) who went to war from Michigan but never came back. Most of the soldiers in this category went to war in Vietnam and we don’t know what happened to them. For some reason, our nation has not made accounting for them a high priority. The hundreds of concerned friends, families, veterans, and others who gathered today are doing all that we can do to pressure our nation to account for these missing soldiers. Of course, war can result in soldiers literally being blown apart–but that isn’t the story for all of them. These soldiers deserve a proper burial, and their families deserve closure.
