The aerostat is a Persistent Ground Surveillance System (PGSS), which provides our local battlefield leaders with a 24-hour-a-day “eyes-on” capability, to survey and closely monitor the battle space, and any possible enemy activities; it uses high-definition, infrared and thermal imaging technology. It’s a mulit-million dollar helium filled balloon (aerostat) used in Afghanistan and Iraq to provide the most advanced surveillance technology to our troops.
I’m really glad our troops have this wonderful capability; I sure it saves lives. I do wonder why we’re not using it on the US-Mexican border, especially in Arizona where we have near daily invasions by armed drug runners and thieves? I’ll bet it would stop a bunch of them. Or, maybe, our federal government doesn’t want to stop this constant invasion of our country.
