President Obama spoke to the DAV earlier this week. To say that his speech was void of integrity would be an understatement. Ignoring his own opposition to the liberation of Iraq, supporting our troops and the surge, Obama spoke as if all’s well in Baghdad — thanks to him. He appropriately praised the way our troops adapted and adjusted to the insurgency in Iraq—then he noted that more than 90,000 troops had come since he became president.
He was delighted that we’ll meet his 31 Aug deadline to transition out of a combat role and re-stated that all will be gone in 2012. He sort of left out that while we have won the war, we’re well on the way to loosing the peace. You see, almost a half-year after the national election, Iraq still doesn’t have a new government. Our neglect of helping in this crisis could well be disasterous. And, you know, the Iraqis wanted our help.
But President Obama appears to be yielding to the pressure from his left wing and is doing all he can do to cut-n-run from the area. In other words, to abandon the great results that our soldiers blood has paid for. Shame.
