Stolen Valor Act – the dissent

The majority of the Supreme Court held that the Stolen Valor Act would have a sweeping and chilling effect on free speech. Justices Alito, Scalia, and Thomas were in dissent. They said that the law poses no threat to free speech, but rather punishes lies that, if allowed to continue, are “undermining our country’s system of military honors and inflicting real harm on actual medal recipients and their families.” To that, I say, “Amen.” Protecting liars is not what the US Constitution is about.
