Like most of the people in the US, I watched the first presidential candidate debate last evening. I’m not sure what I expected, but I’m glad I heard the two candidates. Sen. Obama clearly made some points over Sen McCain in the area of economics. On the other hand, McCain clearly dominated the portion involving foreign policy–it was much like someone who had read a lot about football debating the game with someone who had played it for decades. However, what most impressed me is that Sen McCain always sounded like a man who knew what he was talking about; Sen Obama normally sounded like someone who had memorized a bunch of facts and was trying to link them together to make a point. I score this first debate firmly for McCain.
