A few weeks ago I commented that the firearms murder rate had dropped across the country.br /This trend was in spite of, or, maybe, because of increased individual ownership of firearms.br /A couple specific items are emerging from the national trend. A preliminary FBI report shows murder and total violent crime decreased by 10% and 4% respectively in the first half of 2009 as compared to the same time frame in 2008.br /br /One of the cities with the most dramatic decreases is Washington, DC, this after the US Supreme Court struck down the city’s outrageous handgun ban. Like most anti-gun politicians, DC Mayor Adrian Fenty had predicted increased handgun violence–and like all of them, he’s totally wrong. Anyone want to bet that he’ll never, ever admit that he was wrong. America is getting safer. There’s a book title that sums it up: More Guns, Less Crime.
