Constitutions–we used to have one

In Afghanistan one of the things we are doing is to help the local elders (leaders) read and understand their nation’s constitution. One of the purposes is to focus on the role of local government and the elder’s role in promoting security and working with their local government officials. This is great; first knowing and then applying a constitution is how to make it real.

Unfortunately, in the US, while having a wonderful constitution, we no longer abide by it. The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the US Constitution, was written to protect the states and the people from the central government.  The tenth amendment to our constitution says: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”  Someone seems to have erased this from our constitution. It’s time to take our nation back and to abide by the words in our constitution.
