The phonies are everywhere. The top general in Iraq, General Ray Odierno, reports that there are four or five social networking sites that impersonated him online and have used his picture as part of an ask for people to send money.
One of the scams even said he could send someone’s son home early from Iraq if they could only raise the money. Some parents were asked for $200,000 to send a soldier home. These cases, obviously, have been referred to law enforcement.
Online scams aren’t new—I’m often amazed at how perverse some people are.
