The Afghanistan National Army Air Corps stood up their second wing at at Kandahar Air Field on 5 Oct. This wing hosts rotary wing aircraft and supports multiple detachments around the region. The primary mission of those transport helicopters is battlefield mobility, moving cargo and passengers from major bases out to detachments or training facilities. With the addition of Afghan attack platforms, missions requiring escort for transports can now be done by ANAAC assets instead of coalition aircraft. This is a good step forward as the Afghans seek to build a self-sustaining military, but they do have a long way to go.
