Ronald Reagan, our 40th President, strongly supported free enterprise, shared his message of optimism, spoke from his heart about his faith in the American people, and inspired our affection. He touched us all by his truthfulness, by sharing his belief in the founding principles of our nation, turned our economy around, and filled us with hope. Today we celebrate his great leadership, his love of country, and those golden years when he restored our national pride. If government took action that increased our individual freedoms, Reagan was for it—if government took action that was against individual freedom, he was against it. Looking back, it is now clear that when the American people needed him most he was there for us and led us into a better world. He inspired us to dream big dreams. His optimism, faith in our country, and encouragement is sustaining many of us in these days of out of control spending—remembering that he always said if you worked at supporting your country, the future would be better than the past. We owe him a great debt of thanks on this, his one hundredth birthday. Happy Birthday Mr. President; I thank God that you lived.
