In 2007 the State of Missouri’s citizens voted on a constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri. It passed with nearly 90% of the vote. Thus, English is the only language in which the state does business. They felt that a common language is the cornerstone of a cohesive and united state and nation—they’re right. History proves, without exception, that the only way for any nation to survive it must have a single culture.
The state also requires their Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies to verify the immigration status of any person arrested and to work with the federal authorities if the person is here illegally. And the state’s law enforcement officers have training on the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
And there’s more. Illegal immigrants have no access to taxpayer benefits like food stamps and health care. State colleges and universities may not award financial aid to illegals.
Arizona is getting proper recognition for trying to protect their citizens from illegal aliens–this despite the opposition of the US Government. Quietly, behind the scenes, the citizens of Missouri have worked to protect their state. Every state should do this.
