Our soldiers’ weapons

It seems that even the Pentagon is beginning to understand that the two basic weapons for our troops in combat, the M-16 rifle and the 9mm pistol aren’t very good or effective. They don’t compare to what the enemy is using. Our larger weapons are quite good. Perhaps we’ll see some improvements in weapons, but probably not soon. Why is this a shock? My rifle platoon in Vietnam was issued some of the very first M-16s in 1966. They weren’t very good then, and they still aren’t.
