Protect our borders?

President Obama seems to be considering sending more National Guard troops to keep order along the US.-Mexican border as drug-related violence increases in northern Mexico, DoD spokesmen said Friday.br /br /The governors of Arizona and Texas have asked for more than 250 additional Guard troops this year, but no decision yet. The administration has asked Congress for $350 million that could fund emergency military operations along the border, but the money has not been approved, and no decisions have been made about how to spend it if it comes through, they said.br /In February, Texas Governor Rick Perry asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for 1,000 troops to augment efforts along the border. Then in March Arizona Gov. Brewer asked for 250 more Guard troops above approximately 150 already there. “Our communities are negatively affected by the impacts of illegal drug trade and illegal immigration, and enforcement agencies in all jurisdictions are stretched too thin,” Brewer wrote. A Pentagon official replied that a decision hinges on a larger national border strategy still in development. br /br /I guess the congress was so busy passing legislation that no one read before voting on it that gives away nearly $1 trillion that there was no time for $350 million to protect our borders. And the president really hasn’t decided to defend our borders—the violence is now, you know. And then, that’s where the Swine Flu is, but probably no other infected person will cross the border, right? Then again, like the trillion, no one really knows how any money might be spent. Doesn’t this make you feel secure?
