The Draft

All American males are required by law to register for the draft when they come of age. Some non-citizens are required to register for the draft; others are not. Noncitizens who are not required to register with Selective Service include men who are in America on student or visitor visas, and men who are part of a diplomatic or trade mission and their families. Almost all other male noncitizens are required to register, including illegal aliens,br /Currently, 41 states, three territories and the District of Columbia have enacted legislation either linking a man’s eligibility for state-funded higher education benefits or state jobs to the federal registration requirement, and/or passed laws linking a man’s application for a driver’s license or ID card with Selective Service registration.br / However, while US citizens have been, on occasion, prosecuted for non-compliance with the draft registration laws—we don’t prosecute illegal aliens for this. Doesn’t this sound, well, wrong?
